Hey! So Glad You're Here.

So this is the part where I tell you about myself.  I guess you could call me a 'mature' aged student - let me just say mid to late 30's.  I am doing my B Accounting as an external student and started that in 2015.  In life I tend to do things backwards to the norm as you will see when I give you a run down of where I am at currently.

I started my B Acc at a different university back in a year I can't even remember.  After completing about half my degree I fell pregnant with my first son and decided to 'take a break' that ended up being 7 years long.  In that time I got married, and now have 3 sons aged 12, 10 and 5.

So, because I took too long I've had to redo the whole Bachelor which I actually find is not so bad (apart from the cost).  As an older student I am finding I have some life experiences I can add to my learning.  The downside to that is that now I have to juggle a few different parts of my life including study, family, and work.

That brings me to work which is, or will be, a sizable part of each of our lives.  I've worked in Accounting (specifically tax) for about 18 years.  Starting in admin for a tax practice, then working my way up to tax consultant and office manager.  Then on a whim I decided to enrol in university (again) and knuckle down and get this done!  Back to the part about doing things backwards, I studied all my law subjects first up so that I could get my own tax agent registration based on many years of tax experience and all those law subjects, and in July 2018 I was able to become a Registered Tax Agent and have since run my own small tax practice in the small town I live in, Maryborough QLD.

Taking things slowly now to finish the last 7 subjects of my degree, I should graduate mid 2022.

If anyone out there has questions about becoming a Tax Agent please feel free to ask.  I love it!  It's a very rewarding career path to go down.  It's true it doesn't pay as well as some other aspects of accounting, but there are other parts of it that make it very fun.
